The increasing usage of hybrid cable-overhead lines raises concerns over the protection short cable sections against lightning surges, because voltage build-up in section. To set a simulation model phenomenon is time consuming, with numerous parameters impacting overvoltage. This paper (Part I) presents formulas able to perform fast estimation maximum overvoltage at line transition point event shielding failure. estimate and without surge arrester, as well energy absorbed by arrester.
